Coaching quality is the first of our four pillars for a simple reason: in a swimming academy, the coach is the product. Everything else — the pool, the lounge, the app — only matters if the person in the water with your child knows what they are doing.
All Skywhale coaches hold the SSI Swim Teacher certification, an international standard. What is rarer is who certifies them. Our founder, JS Lee — a former state-level competitive swimmer — is a certified SSI Teacher Instructor, qualified to train and certify other swim teachers. Because of that qualification, Skywhale is an officially recognised SSI Training Center: our coaches are not just certified somewhere else and hired; they are trained and certified here, to one standard, by the person who set it.

A new coach does not teach on day one. They move through four stages, and each stage ends with an examination that must be passed before the next one begins:

At Skywhale, a Senior or Branch-Coordinator-level Head Coach is present at every class to watch for safety, step in immediately if something is off, track each student’s progress, and evaluate the coach’s own performance. Your child’s swimming instructor is never the only qualified adult watching the pool.
